POP MUSIC

Pop music, often called simply pop, is a common type of popular music (distinguished from classical or art music and from folk). The term does not refer specifically to a single genre or sound, and its meaning is different depending on the time and place. Within popular music, "pop music" is often distinguished from other subgenres by stylistic traits such as a danceable rhythm or beat, simple melodies and a repetitive structure . Pop song lyrics are often emotional, relating to love.

Pop music may include elements of rock, hip hop, reggae, dance, R&B, jazz, electronic, and sometimes folk music and various other styles. For example, in the 1920s-50s pop music drew influence mainly from jazz, beginning in the 1950s from rock and R&B, and since the 1980s, from hip hop. The broad appeal of pop music is seen to distinguish it from more specific types of popular music, and pop music performers and recordings are among the best-selling and most widely known in many regions of the world.

I'm sure she doesn't know
How to touch you like I would
I beat her at that one good

Don't you think so?

[Whispering]
For you, I'd give up all I own
And move to a communist country
If you came with me, of course
And I'd file my nails so they don't hurt you
And lose those pounds, and learn about football

If it made you stay, but you won't, but you won't

So don’t bother
I won’t die of deception
I promise you won’t ever see me cry
Don’t feel sorry
And don't bother
I’ll be fine
But she’s waiting
The ring you gave to her will lose its shine
So don’t bother, be unkind

So don't bother,
I'll be fine, I'll be fine, I'll be fine, I'll be fine
I promise you won't ever see me cry
And after all I'm glad that I'm not your type, not your type, not your type, not your type
I promise you won't ever see me cry

She's almost 6"0 feet tall
She must think I'm a flea
I'm really a cat you see

And it's not my last life at all
Hey, hey!
So don’t bother
I won’t die of deception
I promise you won’t ever see me cry
Don’t feel sorry

And don't bother
I’ll be fine

But she’s waiting
The ring you gave to her will lose its shine
So don’t bother, be unkind

She’s got the kind of look that defies gravity
She’s the greatest cook
And she’s fat free
She’s been to private school
BUT she speaks perfect French
She’s got her perfect friends
Oh isn’t she cool?
She practices Tai Chi
She'd never lose her nerve
She's more than you deserve
She's just far better than me
Hey, hey!

What is music?

Poem

Music
Music is my life
It's my best friend

It helps me through troubles
It always holds my hand
And when I'm angry music gets angry too
It shares my happiness
It shares my sorrow
It shares the heartbreaks
Yet it talks about the hopes of tomorrow
Music shares my volume
When I scream
It gets loud with me
And when I can barely whisper
It's as soft as a summer breeze
Music is my life
It's my best friend
My soul mate

Disco

DISCO

Disco is a genre of dance-oriented pop music that blends elements of funk and soul music that was first popularized in dance clubs (discothèques) in the mid-1970s. Disco songs dominated mainstream pop until the late 1970s. Disco songs usually have soaring, often reverberated vocals over a steady four-on-the-floor beat, an eighth note (quaver) or sixteenth note (semi-quaver) hi-hat pattern with an open hi-hat on the off-beat, and a prominent, syncopated electric bass line. Strings, horns, electric pianos, and electric guitars create a lush background sound, and orchestral instruments are used for solo melodies (unlike rock, lead guitar is rarely used)
Major mid-1970s disco performers included
Donna Summer, Boney M., The Jackson 5, Barry White, The Bee Gees, and ABBA. Many non-disco artists recorded disco songs at the height of its popularity. Films such as Saturday Night Fever and Thank God It's Friday contributed to disco's rise in mainstream popularity. While disco music declined in popularity in the early 1980s, it was an important influence on the development of the 1980s and 1990s electric dance music genres of house and techno.

SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER
Saturday Night Fever is a 1977 film starring John Travolta as Tony Manero, a troubled Brooklyn youth whose weekend activities are dominated by visits to a Brooklyn discotheque. While in the disco, Tony is the king, and the visits help him to temporarily forget the reality of his life: a dead-end job, clashes with his unsupportive and squabbling parents, racial tensions in the local community, and his associations with a gang of dead-beat friends.
The movie significantly helped to popularize
disco music around the world, and made Travolta a household name. The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, featuring disco songs by the Bee Gees, became the best selling soundtrack ever.

How much do you know about JAZZ ?

Not much? Well, don’t worry, the following text will provide you with plenty of information about it.

The music called Jazz was born sometime around 1895 in New Orleans. It combined elements of Ragtime, marching band music and Blues. What differentiated Jazz from these earlier styles was the widespread use of improvisation, often by more than one player at a time. Jazz represented a break from Western musical traditions, where the composer wrote a piece of music on paper and the musicians then tried their best to play exactly what was in the score. In a Jazz piece, the song is often just a starting point or frame of reference for the musicians to improvise around. The song might have been a popular ditty or blues that they didn't compose, but by the time they were finished with it they had composed a new piece that often bore little resemblance to the original song. Many of these virtuoso musicians were not good sight readers and some could not read music at all, nevertheless their playing thrilled audiences and the spontaneous music they created captured a joy and sense of adventure that was an exciting and radical departure from the music of that time. The first Jazz was played by African-American and Creole musicians in New Orleans.

But who was the greatest of all Jazz musicians?
A man whose amazing technical abilities, the joy and spontaneity, and amazingly quick, inventive musical mind still dominate Jazz to this day, a man called
LOUIS ARMSTRONG!

Someone said Hip Hop is:

A dedication to, and celebration of street life, and its diverse culture and contributions to various art forms today.

What about you, how would you define Hip Hop?
Give us your opinion:

Hip Hop is ...

Now you have here some information bout this kind of music. Let's read it!

HIP HOP

Hip hop is the culture from which rap emerged. Initially it consisted of four main elements: graffiti art, breakdancing, dj (cuttin' and scratching) and emceeing (rapping). Hip Hop is a lifestyle with its own language, style of dress, music and mind set that is continuously evolving. Nowadays, because break dancing and graffiti aren't as prominent the words 'rap' and 'hip hop' have been used interchangeably. However it should be noted that all aspects of hip hop culture still exists. They've just evolved onto new levels.
Hip hop continues to be a direct response to an older generation's rejection of the values and needs of young people. Initially all of hip hop's major facets were forms of self expression. The driving force behind all these activities was people's desire to be seen and heard.
Hip hop came about because of some major format changes that took place within Black radio during the early 70's. Prior to hip hop, black radio stations playes an important role in the community by being musical and cultural preserver of griot (story teller).

Ciara (also known as the Princess of Hip Hop) is a well-known singer that also sings this kind of music. Visit the following site and you'll be able to watch the newest video in which she performs and sings the song Like a boy. If you want to sing along you have the lyrics after the link.

Verse: 1]
Pull up your pants
(Just Like Em')

Take out the trash
(Just Like Em')

getting ya cash like em'
Fast like em'

Girl you outta act like ya dig
(What I'm talkin' bout'
Security codes on everything
Vibrate so your phone don't ever ring
(Joint Account)
And another one he don't know about

[Hook]
Wish we could switch up the roles
And I could be that...
Tell you I love you
But when you call I never get back
Would you ask them questions like me?...
Like where you be at?
Cause I'm out 4 in the morning
On the corna rolling
Doing my own thing
Ohh

[Chorus]
What if I?...
Had a thing on the side?
Made ya cry?
Would the rules change up?...
Or would they still apply?...
If I played you like a toy?...
Sometimes I wish I could act like a boy

[Guy Chopped & Screwed Voice]
Can't be getting mad!
What You Mad?
Can't Handle that!
Can't be getting mad!
What you mad?
Can't handle that!

[Verse: 2]
Girl go head and be...
(Just Like Em')
Go run the streets
(Just Like Em')
come home late say sleep like em'
Creep like em'
Front with ya friends
Act hard when you're with em' like em'
(What)
Keep a straight face when ya tell a lie
Always keep an airtight alibi
(Keep Him In The Dark)
What he don't know won't break his heart

[Hook]
Wish we could switch up the roles
And I could be that...
Tell you I love you
But when you call I never get back
Would you ask them questions like me?...
Like where you be at?
Cause I'm out 4 in the morning
On the corna rolling
Doing my own thing
Yea

[Chorus]
What if I?...
Had a thing on the side?
Made ya cry?
Would the rules change up?...
Or would they still apply?...
If I played you like a toy?...
Sometimes I wish I could act like a boy

[Guy Chopped & Screwed Voice]
Can't be getting mad!
What You Mad?
Can't Handle that!
Can't be getting mad!
What you mad?
Can't handle that!
Can't be getting mad!
What you mad?
Can't handle that!
Can't be getting mad!
What you mad?
Can't handle that!

[Bridge]
If I was always gone
With the sun getting home
(Would Ya Like That?)
Told you I was with my crew
When I knew it wasn't true
(Would Ya Like That?)
If I act like you
Walk A mile off in yo shoes
(Would Ya Like That?)
I'm messing with your head again
Dose of your own medicine

[Chorus]
What if I?...
Had a thing on the side?
Made ya cry?
Would the rules change up?...
Or would they still apply?...
If I played you like a toy?...
Sometimes I wish I could act like a boy

[Guy Chopped & Screwed Voice]
Can't be getting mad!
What You Mad?
Can't Handle that!
Can't be getting mad!
What you mad?
Can't handle that!
Can't be getting mad!
What you mad?
Can't handle that!
Can't be getting mad!
What you mad?
Can't handle that!

[Music Plays]

[Outro]
If I played you...
Would yo like that?
Had friends...
Would you like that?
Nother car?
Would you like that?
Hell naw
You wouldn't like that
No!

[Half-Chorus]
What if I made ya cry!
Would they still apply!
What if I...
If I played you like a toy
Sometimes I wish I could act like a boy!

[Music til' song fades out]

The Blues

BLUES

Now I am inviting you to learn about this ancient American rythm!

Blues is a vocal and instrumental form of music based on the use of the blue notes and a repetitive pattern that most often follows a twelve-bar structure. It emerged in African-American communities of the United States from spirituals, praise songs, field hollers, rhymed Scots-Irish narrative ballads, shouts, and chants. The use of blue notes and the prominence of call-and-response patterns in the music and lyrics are indicative of the blues' West African pedigree. The blues influenced later American and Western popular music, as it became part of the genres of ragtime, jazz, bluegrass, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, hip-hop,and pop songs.
